Blue Rose Code is Edinburgh-born songwriter Ross Wilson. In the space of only a short few years, Blue Rose Code has gone from song-writing in the obscurity of an East London flat to being celebrated by the industry and fans alike as a legacy artist whose work stands alone. As BBC Radio 3 broadcaster Mary-Anne Kennedy said recently, “Blue Rose Code is one of those rare artists whose work makes you sit up and listen"
Performing live he is stunning, and this reputation led Edith Bowman to personally ask Ross to perform on the launch show of BBC At The Quay with Texas and Stornoway.

A nomad both geographically and musically, Ross writes from the heart eschewing any specific genre and the twelve new songs on his new album The Water of Leith, addressing themes of love, loss, travel, home, accepting the past and embracing the future, are painted with colours of folk, jazz, soul and pop; an eclecticism that has become a hallmark of Blue Rose Code and has seen him compared to John Martyn, Van Morrison and Tom Waits

Praise for Blue Rose Code:

“Blue Rose Code is a very important emerging singer/songwriter." – Bob Harris, BBC Radio 2

“This is simply beautiful, I am a folk convert."- Emma Freud, BBC Radio 4

"Ross Wilson's mellifluous voice and fluid fingerpicking cast him as the natural successor to John Martyn." – The Evening Standard

"I absolutely bloody love his music!" - Nigel Wynne, The Old Stables

Support for Blue Rose Code will be provided by the wonderful Jamie R Hawkins for his return visit to The Old Stables.  Jamie is an Award Winning Singer Songwriter whose songs have won him critical acclaim in the UK and around the world…

He has been described as “a powerful mixture of storyteller, philosopher and poet”, his lyrics as “poignant and witty” and his performances, “emotive and captivating”.

His song ‘Bloody Good Xmas‘ won the acoustic/folk category in the 2011 UK Songwriting Contest and went on to achieve a #2 position in the Amazon download charts. He has since gone from strength to strength, forging for himself a dedicated and growing fan-base, particularly in the Southwest of England and Central Europe.

In March 2016 he released his second EP, ‘Capacity To Change’ to critical acclaim and embarked upon his first European Tour backed by a full band of world class musicians.  April 2017 saw the release of his well received third EP, ‘The Bitter End‘ with a third European tour planned for August. His successes overseas have secured him more future tour dates and a recording deal with independent Swiss label, Funk Street Studios.

Jamie can usually be found either in the studio scribbling away in his dog-eared note book, or performing his songs to the masses…

Doors open at 7.30pm with entertainment starting at around 8pm.
